Weatherley-White on Mainstreaming Impact Investing

Monday, Mar 27, 2017

Bloomberg Markets AM with Pimm Fox and Lisa Abramowicz host the Managing director of The Caprock Group, Matthew Weatherley-White, discussing his views on the "mainstreaming" of impact investing, and how the US rollback of corporate regulations will affect the sector. The clip (linked below) opens with Abramowicz seamlessly following the discussion thread from an earlier guest — also dealing with "changes to the environmental backdrop given President Trump’s agenda."

Weatherley-White begins by defining what it is to be an impact investor;

“these are investors who deploy capital with the expectation of a positive financial return — and those returns can be concessionary, at market, or (potentially) above market-rate — and the intention to create durable, measurable, social and environmental value.”

(He later breaks this out more granularly.)

The clip duration is 8 minutes and 12 seconds. Expect a bite-sized history lesson, flashes of political analysis, and a fistful of quotable data as Weatherley-White and Abramowicz tackle Trump's revival of fossil fuels, the extent of environmental protection under Obama's tenure, and a powerful legacy from the Nixon administration.
